Earth Day, also known as Earth Day 🌍, is an annual day celebrated around the world on April 22 since 1970. This day was created to raise awareness about environmental issues and the importance of conserving our planet for future generations. 🌱🌿

The day was created by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, a strong environmental and civil rights advocate. On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day was celebrated in the United States with street demonstrations, community events, conferences and environmental forums. The day mobilized more than 20 million people across the United States and became the starting point for the modern environmental movement. 🌳🌷

The purpose of Earth Day was to raise public awareness of environmental issues, such as air and water pollution, destruction of natural habitats, and loss of animal species. The day also contributed to the passage of important environmental laws in the United States, such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. 🐬🐢🌊

Since its inception, Earth Day has been celebrated around the world each year with a variety of events, from beach and river cleanups to sustainability conferences and outreach to schools and local communities. It's an important opportunity to remind people of the importance of protecting our planet and working together to create a more sustainable future for all. 🌎🌻

Unfortunately, our planet is facing several environmental problems that threaten our future and that of our children. The most important of these are climate change, air and water pollution, deforestation and biodiversity loss. These problems are interconnected, and solutions must be holistic and inclusive to address them in a sustainable manner. Individuals, governments, businesses and society as a whole must work together to protect our planet and ensure a sustainable future for all. 🌿🌲

But don't worry, there are many small things everyone can do to help protect the environment! For example, you can reduce your energy consumption by turning off unused lights and electronics, use energy-efficient LED light bulbs, and opt for energy-efficient electronics. 🌞💡

You can also reduce your carbon footprint by using public transportation, carpooling, biking or walking, and by reducing your consumption of meat and animal products. In addition, you can reduce your waste by recycling, composting and reusing items as much as possible. Finally, you can support businesses and organizations working to create a more sustainable world by choosing environmentally friendly products and participating in events and awareness initiatives.

For longer term actions, we are going to introduce you to an association that is particularly close to our hearts: 1% for the planet.

You're going to tell me what the link is? Well, the link between Earth Day and 1% for the Planet is that both aim to raise awareness and mobilize people to take action to protect our planet. Earth Day promotes awareness and education about environmental issues, while 1% for the Planet encourages businesses to donate to support environmental organizations. 

1% for the Planet is a non-profit organization that encourages businesses and individuals to financially support environmental organizations around the world. Founded in 2002 by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, the organization is committed to helping solve environmental problems by encouraging businesses and individuals to donate at least 1% of their annual sales to approved environmental organizations.

How does it work? 

Members of 1% for the Planet can choose from a list of approved environmental organizations to support, or nominate their own organization for approval. Since its inception, the organization has raised millions of dollars to support environmental projects around the world, ranging from conserving biodiversity and fighting climate change to protecting water and promoting sustainable business practices.

Today, 1% for the Planet has over 3,000 members in more than 60 countries, and continues to encourage businesses and individuals to take action for the environment by donating a portion of their sales to support local and global environmental projects and we are pleased to be a part of it 😍😍

By the way, did you know that even before we joined this association we had already dedicated the 1% to our name? Hence the 71%! 

Earth Day is an important opportunity to remind everyone that we all have a role to play in protecting our planet and creating a sustainable future for all. By working together, we can make a positive difference and help preserve our beautiful planet for generations to come. 🌍🌿
